Diane Jarvi.A third generation Finnish-American from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Diane Jarvi has been called "The Minnesota Nightingale". A singer, songwriter, guitarist and kantele player, Diane Jarvi is a versatile performer of folk and world music. In addition to her own compositions, Jarvi is known for her intimate and authentic interpretations of tangos, waltzes, gypsy music, ballads, swing and cabaret songs from Finland, France, Germany, Cabo Verde, Brazil, Mexico and the U.S.

Diane is a Minnesota native whose grandparents all emigrated from Finland. This led her to a serious exploration of Finnish music, including studies at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. Jarvi plays the 5, 8, 10, 15 and 36- string kantele (Finnish folk harp). Her recordings have led to radio play and performances at festivals in the U.S. and in Finland, where she is known in Finland as Minnesotan Satakieli - The Minnesota Nightingale.

An award-winning poet under the name Diane Jarvenpa, her book of poetry Divining The Landscape was published by New Rivers Press. her third book of poetry, The Tender, Wild Things was published in the fall of 2007 by New Rivers Press.

About her music, Jarvi has said "There is something distinct about Finnish music. It is the music of my ancestors. It can be both exotic and pure, electrifying and mesmerizing. It stands in my life as both sunlight and moonlight, and like the kokko, the bonfire, always burning.".

Diane Jarvi - Wild Gardens
Wild Gardens
Diane Jarvi explores the roots and vines, the flowers and the shadows, on her fifth CD release. The tranquility that infuses Diane's vocal style compellingly traverses the landscape where emotions converge - joyfulness, mourning, hope, rebirth. Diane’s poetic tales are sung in English, Finnish, Swedish and Occitan (a language of Medieval French troubadours). Accompanied by her own guitar and kantele (Finnish folk harp), Diane is joined by a stellar roster of Twin Cities musicians on originals, traditional songs and contemporary covers.
