Janice MartinJanice Martin brings a combination of dynamic energy, mature artistry and experienced professionalism to her performances. Top music critics have said about Janice:
• "A witty, elegantly perceptive performer" — The Strad
• "A violinist with a strong personality" — New York Times
• "A chamber musician of consummate elegance" — Washington Post
• "A stunning talent" — The Miami Herald

Janice's unusual talents have been refined through a combination of traditional musical education and wide-ranging experience. A graduate of Juilliard as well as Indiana University School of Music, she studied with Dorothy DeLay, Yuval Yaron, Mimi Zweig, Masao Kawasaki, and Glenn Dicterow, earning her Master of Music degree and Artist’s Diploma. Janice Martin has also refined her technique through work with such esteemed musicians as Franco Gulli, Joseph Gingold, Nellie Shkolnikova and Roland and Almita Vamos.

An engaging vocal communicator with a dramatic presence, Janice is a trained singer with a beautiful operatic voice, as well as an actress, pianist and dancer. These interests have inspired a unique approach to performance and art in general, and continue to inspire her work and performances to evolve into many different types of concerts. A light-hearted joie de vivre permeates Janice's playing and personality. She strives for perfection in her art with patience and confidence, and her casual demeanor can be misleading. Inside this petite and pretty woman beats the heart of a fearless competitor.

Janice can be heard on broadcasts for Smithsonian Radio and PBS Television, and she also guest-lectures and performs for the Smithsonian Institution's music history program as well as school concerts and master classes across the country.

As soloist, Janice has appeared with many prestigious orchestras including:
• The Victoria (BC) Symphony
• The Pilsen Philharmonic in the Czech Republic
• European Union Chamber Orchestra
• The New York Symphonic Ensemble (2000-2003 Japan tours)
• La Fundacion Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional de Santo Domingo
• The Amadeus Orchestra
• The Aeolian Chamber Orchestra
• many others including Washington Symphony Orchestra, Dekalb Symphony, Racine Symphony, and Mount Vernon Symphony
• The Milwaukee Symphony (competition winner)

To the extent possible in the modern musician's world of planes, trains and hotels, Janice Martin takes the time to maintain a well-rounded life. She is a voracious reader whose interests range from physics to Eastern philosophy, and she works out regularly on the road to stay in shape. In her limited spare time she kicks, punches and blocks in her Kung Fu classes or takes it easy jogging or doing Chi Gung.

Janice Martin, Violinist
Janice Martin, Violinist
A good introduction to this emerging artist who, after studies at Indiana University and at Juilliard with Glenn Dicterow and Dorothy Delay, polished her repertory during a three-year stint in the U.S. Army, performing concertos with the Army Band. Accompanied by Rachel Franklin, an exceptionally sensitive accompanist playing a resonant Falconi concert grand to match Martin's borrowed 1685 Marquise d'Auria Stradivarius.
