Teresa Manzella began her musical studies at the age of 10 with the french horn, adding conducting lessons at 15. She has conducted the Minnesota Orchestra in rehearsal on three occasions, and played at New York's Carnegie Hall prior to touring Europe with America's Youth in Concert. Teresa Manzella studied at the Boston University School of Music.
Serious pursuit of vocal performing began in 1980, and Teresa has covered a number of styles. She has performed:
- Big band swing at all the local ball rooms and as part of the KBEM jazz festival
- Jazz at most of the respected jazz venues, including the Times, Dakota, Luxx, Loring, etc.
- Classical repertoire from St. Paul's United Church of Christ to Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis Opera with the Boston Concert Opera Company at Jordan Hall in Boston.
Jazz and specifically vocal improvisation are Teresa's primary focus points in her performing now, and she recently released her debut CD, titled "Torch Swingin". In 1997, Teresa Manzella had the opportunity to perform with Alice Babs, who toured extensively with Duke Ellington, and who can be heard between hours on "The Jazz Image" on MPR. Alice had this to say: "Teresa-Keep swingin' and singing. I like to listen to you!"
