Brian PetersonAfter three intense years of performing and writing, Minneapolis-based singer-songwriter Brian Peterson is proud to announce the release of his second CD, Look Up to the Sky. The album contains 13 original songs that display the wide range of Brian's songwriting and performing skill. From the infectious Dixieland arrangement of "This is Gonna Be Good" that opens the album to the languid, summertime feel of "Seems Like A Daydream", "Look Up to the Sky" demonstrates an array of emotions.

Brian's "Why Didn't We Think of This Before" is a bouncy tune driven by Brian's acoustic guitars that evokes the sound of Steve Goodman. On the other hand, "When The Devil Asks You a Question" is a driving minor-keyed folk-rock tune that contemplates the nature of evil in the modern world. Brian also creates the tenderness of a father as he sings to a child "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark."

Building on his 1998 release When It's Your Turn, Brian has refined his sound. A regular on the Twin Cities coffeehouse scene, Brian's acoustic guitar work centers the album. From that center he has assembled a number of talented local musicians to add colors to many of the songs, yet several tunes contain nothing more than guitar and acoustic bass. Minnesota guitar legend Lonnie Knight lends his artistry to two songs, while Parisian émigré Raphael Fraisse provides his violin sounds for Brian's "The Way That I Hope." A group of Dixieland musicians, including clarinetist and studio pro Fred Richardson, also show off their talents.

Brian was a finalist at the 2000 Minnesota Folk Festival's Songwriting competition.

Brian Peterson has a golden voice reminiscent of Maria Maldaur and Bonnie Raitt, a truly gifted artist not only as a composer and arranger, but a solid vocalist.

Brian co-produced the album with St. Paul singer-songwriter Fred Grittner and recorded it at Grittner's Black Crow Studios. As the recording sessions progressed, Brian began to write more songs. Soon these new songs took the album in a whole new direction. "The new songs were inspired by working with Fred and other artists I've met this year," Brian explains. "I hope listeners will want to open up a little more to these songs each time they hear them."
