Singer, songwriter Ann Reed has a folk style that has earned her every major Minnesota music award including Artist of the Year, Folk Singer of the Year and the Alumni fine Arts Award. Ann's talents include more than just singing and songwriting. Ann Reed plays numerous instruments, including 12-string guitar, mandolin, standup bass, six-string guitar, lap harp a little piano, too.
If you had to pinpoint when all this started, you could look back to when Ann was 12, growing up in a suburb of Minneapolis. She borrowed her brother's guitar (the one he bought with the $40 their grandmother had given him to buy a suit) and taught herself to play. The die was cast. Ann Reed has performed at world-renowned folk festivals including Bumbershoot and the Winnipeg Folk Festival.
Ann's appearances on radio (A Prairie Home Companion, All Things Considered, Mt. Stage, and and Minnesota Public Radio's Morning Show, where she occasionally fills in as co-host) television (Good Morning America) and at special events (with no less than the Vice President and 75,000 Girl Scouts in attendance!) have garnered her a loyal and diverse audience.
She has been honored with enough awards to fill a couple of walls and a bunch of shelf space. These accolades from the likes of Billboard magazine, the National Association of Independent Recording Distributors, the Minnesota Music Academy, and the Girl Scouts reflect a satisfying career by anyone's measure—made even more so since Ann combines her artistry with community involvement. She donates about 25% of her time to the support of nonprofit groups that primarily benefit women and children.
Reed's disillusionment with the major record labels in Nashville and LA and the "music scenes" that weren't her style, gave her the push she needed to start her own and appropriatly named it "A Major Label".
It all boils down to this: Ann loves what she does. And the people who hear her music love what she does. Ann Reed — with the rich alto, the smooth guitar licks, the great songs, the sly wit — is having the time of her life.

Songs for Minnesota Songs for Minnesota is full of songs about ... well ... Minnesota. During Minnesota's sesquicentennial year, Ann Reed toured her homeland and collected ideas for a song for the North Star State. The 3 songs she wrote for Minnesota are on this CD along with a song about tasty Lutefisk, a tribute to Betty Crocker and previously released material ("5 Fair Songs"; "Hole In The Day"; "Marching Back To School"; "Northern Star") |

The State Fair Songs In 1990, Ann was invited to be on the Morning Show on Minnesota Public Radio live from the Minnesota State Fair. There, she took up the challenge to write a song about the fair, on the air, using listeners suggestions. From 6:00 AM to 8:50 AM, Ann took suggestions, went into a booth and wrote, came out to take more suggestions and so on. This, in part, is the result. |

Not Your Average Holiday CD Ann has taken minor liberties with age-old ditties that needed just a little tweaking. Tunes like "Hark! The Merry Merchants Sing." Fear not, she hasn't totally corrupted all of your favorite carols - some appear in instrumental form. |
