Yeltzi - Sara Softich and Jason WussowYeltzi the Duluth, MN songwriting duo of Sara Softich and Jason Wussow. They celebrated the release of their debut album on October 17 at Beaner's Central.

Snow in August is a twisted, gypsy bluegrass ode to cold and winter snow that has fallen in few places before Labor Day. Yeltzi comes from one of them. It's the first recording to fully capture the twisted, gypsy bluegrass sound that's evolved from years of combining their individual styles on stages through the country. The album's thirteen, fiddle-driven songs are partially inspired by the pair's recent tours across the Northern Great Plains and American Southwest. But the collection dwells most on scenes of cold and winter from their hometown. (Yup, it actually snowed in August in Duluth in 1949.) A CD release party at Beaner's Central in Duluth coincides with a visual art show inspired by the album's title track. A dozen Duluth-area artists created visual interpretations of the song "Snow in August."

The submissions were incorporated into the album's cover art and liner notes, and the originals were on display and for sale at Beaner's through mid-November. Artists who participated in the project include: Bridget Riversmith, Karin Kraemer, Shannon Cousino, Carrie Kohlmeier, Janelle Miller, Natalie Salminen Rude, Jeredt Runions, Maria Sippola, Brit Salmela, Nate Lindstrom, Patrick Sharrow and Gordon Manary.

“[Snow in August] has an infectious energy... It’s both sweet and tart, and is alluring but with a certain amount of emotional detachment that gives it (like some Minnesotans) a kind of stoic quality.” --Duluth News Tribune

“Ambition is the name of the game with Sara Softich and Jason Wussow’s first project under the Yeltzi flag, Snow in August... one of the most instantly appealing records to come out of the Twin Ports.” --Duluth Budgeteer News
