Beginners on the bagpipe learn to play music on practice chanters. Practice chanters provide a quiet sweet melodic sound and so are also used to learn bagpipe melodies even by those who have already learned to play bagpipes. When shipped, practice chanters are disassembled and the reed is placed on the outside so it is easily located. Practice chanters have three pieces: the mouthpiece, the shorter top body section and the bottom body section with finger holes. With the top and bottom body sections disassembled, the bottom body section is held close to its top joint end. The top body section is gently slipped over the reed and bottom body section. The mouthpiece then attaches over the top of the top body section. Practice chanters are played like a whistle or recorder. While playing, the fingers are kept straight, and the pads of the fingers should not be used. Fingers are placed over all the holes of the chanter, front and back. Lifting one finger at a time plays notes. After each practice session, the practice chanter is taken apart and the moisture is shaken out. IMPORTANT NOTICE! Health and sanitary regulations prohibit the exchange or return for credit of any mouth blown instrument. |
