Musicnotes provides two types of sheet music download formats. Musicnotes digital sheet music files are the most common type of digital sheet music you will find on Musicnotes site. Developed by Musicnotes' talented staff of programmers, this sheet music is available for Instant Printing and includes a Downloadable Sheet Music file that you can save to your computer for later use with the Musicnotes Player. Currently, the Musicnotes Player is compatible with PCs only. We do however, expect to offer a Mac player in the future. Sheet music available in the Musicnotes Digital Sheet Music format is indicated in the search results by a blue note icon.

The second type is Scorch Digital Sheet Music. This type of digital sheet music uses Sibelius's "Scorch" software, and is listed as an orange flame icon in the search results. Very similar to Musicnotes digital sheet music, these digital sheet music pieces allow for both instant previewing and printing of the sheet music. There are several key differences, however, between the two formats. The most notable being the inability to save Scorch digital sheet music to your computer after you print it out. Because of publisher restrictions, the Scorch format does not include a file to save. Upon purchasing a Scorch digital sheet music title, you are given the ability to print, and to view the first page of the piece in the online viewer. But, a downloadable file is not included. When downloading sheet music, realize that many pieces (especially Piano/Vocal and Piano/Vocal/Guitar scorings) are not actual note-for-note transcriptions of the recording. Publishers will intentionally simplify these arrangements to make them more playable for most musicians. Songs with notations such as "Easy Piano", "Easy Play", "Big Note", "Easy Guitar" or "Easy Guitar TAB" will usually be abridged (condensed) versions. (Notation, including other helpful information, is indicated below the digital preview, under Product Information.) Also note that Leadsheets typically only contain the lyrics, chord symbols and melody line of a song and are rarely more than one page in length. They often do not contain complete lyrics to the song.
